The unique Chimney on the Zippo Pipe Lighter is still wind proof as with all other Zippo's but the larger hole in side allows you to draw the flame down. Simply ignite, hold the lighter on it's side above the pipe and draw on the pipe. It is very effective, keeps your fingers well out of the way and prevents charring to the rim of pipe as the flame comes from above not the side.
Downside Some Pipe Smokers and Cigar Smokers stay away from Petrol Lighters as the petrol aroma taints the tobacco. Other pipe smokers say this is not the case and would never use anything but a Zippo! We can't say either way if you will get on with a Zippo but if you are fed up of unreliable lighters we couldn't recommend one more.
All we can say is make sure you use Zippo Fuel. Zippo Fuel is dramatically cleaner than any other brand. Cheaper brands have an intense lingering smell which makes your eyes water but Zippo fuel is barely noticeable.
