Royal Meerschaum Pipes: Meerschaums pipes had more or less disappeared off the market as good examples at a reasonable price have become increasingly hard to find. This is mainly blamed on a shortage of suitable Meerschaum. Thankfully we have found Royal Meerschaum, which is owned by the Korn family who have decades of experience in importing and commissioning Meerschaum pipes from reputable carvers in Turkey. These are not boutique, hand carved, flawless block meerschaum, masterpieces but you get a lot of pipe for your money. The Korn family have a developed a process for producing an equivalent to Meerschaum from a base of Meerschaum and other natural minerals to replicate Meerschaum almost identically. To the point the Pipes even pass the lick and stick test to highlighting it's porous attributes. The majority of pipesmokers would be forgiven for mistaking these as Block Meerschaums and from reports we are already getting back they smoke just as well. Each pipe is hand carved from to a very impressive standard for the price tag. They are not collectors pieces but for the average pipe smoker who wants all the cool smoking benefits of a Meerschaum with nice characterful and clear carving this side of £100 you will be hard pressed to find better than the Royal collection.
Meerschaum Pipes: Meerschaum is a natural clay found, mainly in Turkey in naturally formed pockets. Due to the porous nature of the clay, Meerschaum pipes provide a much cooler smoke and absorb more moisture than Briar pipes. It is also easy to carve so some stunning examples can be found. The downside to Meerschaum is the Meerschaum clay is running out and they are not as a robust. Drop one on anything harder than a shag pile and your pipe is likely to shatter. They are generally reserved for fireside smoking rather than a trip to the shops. If you look after your Meerschaum you will be able to witness the pipe curing over years as the natural oils from the tobacco are absorbed into the clay revealing deep reds and golden browns. A well carved meerschaum will really show its true quality as deeper carvings will be clarified by deeper shades where thicker parts of the pipe will stay more Golden.
Measurements: Please note measurements are purely as a guide. These Meerschaums are hand carved and the displayed picture is unlikely to be the exact pipe you receive so the carving and size of the block may vary to a reasonable extent.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a generic image that we have taken from a random selection of this pipe model from our stocks. It is unlikely to be the exact pipe you will receive. Due to the nature of the raw material used and this being a handmade product there will be some variation in grain, colour and finish. There could also be a slight variation in the dimensions provided.
