Throughout 2011 Petersons Craftsmen have been gradually picking out the finest Briar Blocks as they work through their stocks. These blocks are put to one side ready for the production of the pipe of the year. At the end of the year the reserved briar is weened down to the best 1000 blocks.

For 2012 Peterson have moved to reintroduce a classic shape. The 2012 pipe of the year is a traditional half bent Pot with a saddle fishtail stem. They have kept the bowl wall thick and chunky but kept the bowl shallower than they have for previous years. Petersons silversmith has pushed the boat out this year with a little something we haven't seen before on the silver band. A raised Peterson emblem stands boldly yet smoothly from the silverwork and finishes the pipe off beautifully. There is nothing overly striking or clever about Petersons 2012 pipe of the year but we like it. It's more on the subtle side emphasising the finish and grain rather than breaking the mould. Often Petersons pipe of the year can be a little obscure, which puts many smokers off but intrigues the collectors out there. This year they have made a pipe for the smokers out there.
Fishtail mouthpiece: Petersons trademark patented mouthpiece is the p.lip design, which has many advantages but unfortunately some smokers just don't get on with it. The Pipe of the year 2012 comes with the fishtail mouthpiece as an alternative for those who don't get on with the P.Lip.
