Unfortunately DB Mariner pipes have been delisted and it doesn't look like they will be coming back to our racks. We have left the listing on our website for historical reference and interest.
DB (Design Berlin) The DB Mariner is an all time classic pipe. For some reason these disappeared from the UK market a few years ago and we could not get hold of them for love nor money despite numerous requests. Well good news folks the DB Mariner has made a re-appearance! DB stands for Design Berlin so for those that aren't that good at Geography these pipes are German made. I'm sure you don't need us to educate you on the reputation of German engineering! The DB Mariner is no exception!
DB Mariner 1 Golden 23 The DB Mariner 1 Golden is somewhere between a Round Shank bent Rhodesian and a bulldog shape with a saddle stem. It is rare to see a round stem on a bulldog or Rhodesian but in this case it is very nice to see as it compliments the Brass rings. The briar walls are widest at the hottest part of the Bowl to prevent overheating while less intense areas are less thin. This helps get this fairly substantial pipe down to a more dentist friendly 55g. It is still not what we would regard as a light pipe but it is light for the size of pipe and is more suited to walking round town with than other models in the Mariner range. The Mariner is undoubtedly a beautiful piece of craftsmanship. The Briar is finished in what we think is one of the most classy light stains we have seen before 2 matching sets of brass rings are impeccably engineered in the stem and on the top of the briar bowl, which some say is to help prevent burning the top of the pipe and others say is simply to add to the beauty. Whether you believe the first or not the latter is undoubtably correct. The Mariner comes with the 9mm absorbent filter system which has gained much popularity over the last 5 years.
9mm Absorbent Filter The DB Mariner are designed for use with any 9mm Absorbent Filters. The larger diameter allows more smoke to pass through the filter, with less restriction, which makes for a better draw compared to the 6mm filters. The highly absorbent filters have a very high surface area resulting in excellent absorption of the tar as the smoke passes through without affecting draw or flavour. No mess no fuss, simply throw the filter in the bin when it turns a dark brown colour. The pipes have a standard 9mm bore so can be used with any brand of 9mm filter if preferred. Alternatively the filter can be removed all together for smokers who prefer a totally un-restricted full on smoke.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a generic image that we have taken from a random selection of this pipe model from our stocks. It is unlikely to be the exact pipe you will receive. Due to the nature of the raw material used and this being a handmade product there will be some variation in grain, colour and finish. There could also be a slight variation in the dimensions provided.
