DB Freehand Pipes: Freehands are often something of a speciality to Pipe makers as they take time, great skill and experience to produce well and this isn't as profitable as mass production of standard shapes but some companies throw caution to the wind as they wish to show off their skills. The Germans have a great reputation to uphold as the finest engineers in the world and they don't disappoint with their pipes. Everything about a DB pipe boasts precision and their freehands still have maintain that precise feel of quality about them but demonstrate the DB's carvers ability to carve off the cuff. Many pipe manufacturers will produce freehands of multiple grades. Not DB they will only release Grade A bowls for a freehand production making them highly sought after and very rare.
DB Freehand 04: The DB Freehand 04 is a one of a kind hand carved pipe which has been carved to compliment the natural grain of the superior Briar block. It is a large pipe with a generous bore and simply beautiful flame grain. You don't get Briar of this quality very often and even less likely is to put it in the hands of a craftsmen that can carve a pipe to compliment it. Not only that but it has been carved with a unique shaping which fits beautifully in the hand. It takes decades of experience to get the eye for this sort of work and it really shows in this Grade 3A piece. Grade 3A is as rare as it gets! This is exceptional Briar of the highest grade with the finest grain pattern you will see. We have never heard of DB producing a Grade 4A yet and this is the first 3A we have seen. Simply stunning!
Bowl Grading DB grade all their premium freehands and only use grade A. Grade A only represents around 5% of the worlds Briar. As you would expect from German standards they don't stop there. They grade their briar even further as Grade 1A, 2A, 3A and dare we suggest there might be a 4A pipe created one day.
DB Design Berlin Smoking Pipes: DB premier German pipes made a very welcomed return to the UK pipe market in 2012 and on the back of a very successful reception we now have access to their pipe of the year for 2014, which we think is a corking example. DB stands for Design Berlin so for those that aren't that good at Geography these pipes are German made. I'm sure you don't need us to educate you on the reputation of German engineering! The DB pipes are no exception!
