These pipes haven't been as popular as we had expected so we have taken the reluctant decision to remove them from our portfolio. We can easily get hold of them again so if you would like one please don't hesitate to get in touch.
DB (Design Berlin) For some reason Design Berlin disappeared from the UK market a few years ago and we could not get hold of them for love nor money despite numerous requests but thankfully in 2012 they returned and we are seeing the range go from strength to strength. DB stands for Design Berlin so for those that aren't that good at Geography these pipes are German made. I'm sure you don't need us to educate you on the reputation of German engineering! The DB pipes are no exception!
DB Empire Meerschaum Lined Pipes I'm sure we don't have to tell you but this is a very elegant pipe of great proportions. Despite being elegant there isn't an ounce of femininity to it which is aided by it's generous size. The chances of you over heating this pipe are very slim and this is further aided by the Meerschaum lining. A Meerschaum will arguable smoke better than any pipe due to its porous nature. The pipe is able to breath and absorb moisture which helps keep the smoke cool and sweet. There is also absolutely no breaking in required as the meerschaum does not burn away in the same way as wood so there is absolutely no chance of the pipe smoking bitterly. The only problem with meerschaum is that it is fragile. If you drop a Meerschaum pipe it will smash. So the best of both worlds the DB Empire is a robust Briar pipe which has been enhanced with a Meerschaum insert.
Please Note You should never ream a meerschaum pipe as this will wear the meerschaum away. Gentle scraping with a dull edge if you happen to get any build up is all that is required.
9mm Absorbent Filter The DB Empire are designed for use with any 9mm Absorbent Filters. The larger diameter allows more smoke to pass through the filter, with less restriction, which makes for a better draw compared to the 6mm filters. The highly absorbent filters have a very high surface area resulting in excellent absorption of the tar as the smoke passes through without affecting draw or flavour. No mess no fuss, simply throw the filter in the bin when it turns a dark brown colour. The pipes have a standard 9mm bore so can be used with any brand of 9mm filter if preferred. Alternatively the filter can be removed altogether for smokers who prefer a totally un-restricted full on smoke.
