Charles Rattray's Briar Pipes Charles Rattray's master blenders have an impeccable worldwide reputation for their unique tobacco blends and unrivalled character. You can be forgiven for not knowing that Rattray's also produce pipes as they were only released onto the general market in 2012. Their pipes were formerly reserved for exclusive sale in their Perth shop but they have answered many prayers by releasing these stunning pipes to retailers worldwide.

Charles Rattrays The Dune 34 Briar Pipe An exclusive for The Black Swan Shoppe The Dune has been released for 2015 and The Black Swan Shoppe was offered these before any other retailer in the UK. We have been trying to get a line of pipes that is different without loosing the classical look or being over the top and the Dune hits the nail on the head. Most pipes made over the last decade have been made with silver bands due to the popularity of white metal but it doesn't always compliment the richer bowl colours. The Gold band against the rich brown stained sandblast just looks sublime. And need we comment on the sandblasting, Rattrays sandblasting is amongst some of the best we've seen really highlighting the stunning natural grain of the premium quality Briar. The Rattray's 34 is be far our favourite shape and 5 years was ago was a hard shape to come by. We are glad it is getting a bit of a revival as Rattray's produce a poker in most of it's ranges and other manufacturers are slowly catching on. The Poker has a straight Billiard or Pot shaped bowl with the shank exiting at a right angle part way up the bowl. The main advantage of the Poker is it stands up unaided and saves mess on your sideboard or expensive tobacco spillages while you allow the pipe to rest. The Rattrays Poker is a perfect example with striking and bold aesthetics and a good deep bore combined with thick walls for those who like a good fill over an evening.

9mm Absorbent Filter The Charles Rattray's The Dune pipes are designed for use with the any 9mm absorbent stem filters. The larger diameter allows more smoke to pass through the filter, with less restriction, which makes for a better draw compared to the 6mm filters. The highly absorbent filters have a very high surface area resulting in excellent absorption of the tar as the smoke passes through without affecting draw or flavour.

The pipes have a standard 9mm bore so can be used with any brand of 9mm filter if preferred. Alternatively the filter can be removed all together for smokers who prefer a totally un-restricted full on smoke.
