Charles Rattray's Briar Pipes Charles Rattray's master blenders have an impeccable worldwide reputation for their unique tobacco blends and unrivalled character. You can be forgiven for not knowing that Rattray's also produce pipes as they were only released onto the general market in 2012. Their pipes were formerly reserved for exclusive sale in their Perth shop but they have answered many prayers by releasing these stunning pipes to retailers worldwide.

Charles Rattrays The Dune 46 Briar Pipe An exclusive for The Black Swan Shoppe The Dune has been released for 2015 and The Black Swan Shoppe was offered these before any other retailer in the UK. We have been trying to get a line of pipes that is different without loosing the classical look or being over the top and the Dune hits the nail on the head. Most pipes made over the last decade have been made with silver bands due to the popularity of white metal but it doesn't always compliment the richer bowl colours. The Gold band against the rich brown stained sandblast just looks sublime. And need we comment on the sandblasting, Rattray's sandblasting is amongst some of the best we've seen really highlighting the stunning natural grain of the premium quality Briar. The Rattrays shape 46 is a half bent Apple with a slightly shallower bowl height and larger across the beam than is the normal for most manufacturers. The Apple shape is one of the most popular bowl shapes due to how comfortably it fits in the hand, the Rattrays is slightly wider than normal which is even more comfortable still. A nice feature is the base of the bowl has been flattened slightly meaning the pipe will stand unaided and prevents mess and expensive spillages while the pipe rests. The pipe has nice thick walls and a decent sized bore for a good fill that will smoke cool and sweet.

9mm Absorbent Filter The Charles Rattray's The Dune pipes are designed for use with the any 9mm absorbent stem filters. The larger diameter allows more smoke to pass through the filter, with less restriction, which makes for a better draw compared to the 6mm filters. The highly absorbent filters have a very high surface area resulting in excellent absorption of the tar as the smoke passes through without affecting draw or flavour.

The pipes have a standard 9mm bore so can be used with any brand of 9mm filter if preferred. Alternatively the filter can be removed all together for smokers who prefer a totally un-restricted full on smoke.
